Charley Pendleton hugs his mother by Jack McConnell

The first time Jack met Charley Pendleton, he whizzed by his car on roller skates down Hewes Point Road on the Maine island of Islesboro. He'd been a champion competitor in the roller derby in his younger days, and a croupier in Las Vegas casinos. He returned to Islesboro to fix up a cabin built right on the water, and kept an eye on his 90-year-old mother who lived nearby. He played keyboard for the island band and led the party-goers every Saturday night.
