GRAPHIC DESIGN
As a graphic designer I am inspired by the bold simplicity of the Bauhaus school of design and find resonance in their idealistic philosophy that life is art. My approach to visual problem solving is to keep things simple, balanced and elegant. My spiritual counterpoint to the precision of graphic design is my love of modern painting. I draw inspiration for design and art from the practice of meditation and by observation of the beauty of my surroundings.
PAINTING
The dramatic light and atmosphere of the ever changing New England landscape is the source of my inspiration. Moving beyond the physical representation of beaches, marshes, forests and mountains, my abstract paintings distill the essence and beauty of land, sea and sky expressed with the language of color. For me the paintings are passages that meditate on nature and its wild rambling beauty — a reflection of the natural world observed from the inside out.
Artistic influences include the larger than life paintings and pioneering spirit of Georgia O’Keefe: the color field paintings of Mark Rothko; the contemporary landscapes of Wolf Kahn, Eric Aho and the wild paintings of Howard Hodgkin. I have studied painting with Jim Peters at the Provincetown International Art Institute, Bonnie Goldstein at Castle Hill Center for the arts; and Eric Aho at Great River Arts in Vermont — I hold a BFA from the University of Connecticut. Since it is nearly impossible to make a living as an artist, I am a designer and aspiring yoga teacher.
I am smitten by the ocean and the water it holds … and boyancy . I am a former Wellfleet, Mass., resident and I willl always feel a spiritual connection with the outer cape and the Atlantic Ocean and all bodies of water.
I now live with my beloved husband Michael in West Hartford, Connecticut — we are blessed have a stream in our back yard and a lovely garden.
